Clothesline Beauty

“La Biancheria” 1910 Watercolor by John Singer Sargent

I love the way Sargent has captured the play of light dancing off of the laundry on this clothesline. I can see a slight breeze blowing. It’s been a delightfully hectic couple of weeks here with loved ones visiting from Massachusetts, Denver, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. It is quiet once again and I have loads of sheets and towels to wash before the next visitors arrive! Last week I put up a clothesline from the back of my garage out to the little shed. I find the sight of sheets drying on the line to be picturesque. I prefer the simple romance of my clothesline to the noisy electrical drain of IMG_3034the dryer. I am watching the Morning Glories climb up the trellis I made out of an old ladder and vines. I look forward to seeing them begin to bloom in a few more weeks. I think they will be blooming by the time construction begins on my studio in early August! My plans were approved by the Historical Board this week–exciting things are beginning to happen! The doors and windows will be ordered on Monday. The new studio which so far has existed only in my imagination will soon materialize in my barn! I will be posting pictures as the magic happens……….
