“Washashore”

IMG_2972Welcome to my new Blog, “Brushstrokes by the Bay!” Not long ago, I moved to Cape Cod from Western Massachusetts. Shortly after my arrival, I met a nice woman walking her dog at the beach. We started chatting and she informed me that I was a “Washashore.” Apparently that is the local term used to describe new Cape residents. The moniker applies for at least ten to twenty years. People who are not considered to be a “Washashore” include those whose relatives came on the Mayflower and those whose great-great-great-ancestors were born, lived, or “summered” on the Cape.

I live in a sweet antique cottage built in 1820. Next to my house there is a lovely old barn which will soon become my new studio! I will be chronicling the construction progress here along with various other musings on my artful life. I love being a “Washashore” here on beautiful Cape Cod!
